Week 7

I thought it would be interesting to see again what the standings would be if we used Median scoring. (# of players on roster they didn't originally draft)

1) Emberdark Aviars 11-3 (5)

2) Chicago Bears 11-3 (7)

3) Unicorn Farts 8-6 (1)

4) Chief Ski 8-6 (5)

5) Fewsta2005 8-6 (6)

6) Dragon Army 7-7 (10)

7) Same SKOLD Story 7-7 (7)

8) Jedi Mind Nix 5-9 (6)

9) Richardson's Elastic Band 2-12 (7)

10) Pretty Ponies Club 3-11 (4)

So this tells me that there isn't much point to median scoring.  It is entirely possible that it could have gone differently but I am convinced it's unnecessary.  I have a feeling you all agree since I am the only who brings it up.

In other news Roland has both the most points for and the most points against, pretty impressive.

Owen has the least points against and is in first, Jim has the least points for and is in last.

Not the most interesting post I know but eh, it's what I got this week.  Hopefully week I will be more interesting.

Week 6

Dear Reader,

Please accept our apologies for any and all grammar grievances you have incurred while reading this blog.  It has been brought to our attention that the writer composes this blog on his phone, in-between other tasks, and late at night.  We suspect he rarely, if ever, reads what he has written to check for errors, and would bet our entire enterprise that he has not once consulted with an editor prior to publishing.  After further consideration we must warn you that if you continue to read the works of this author you will most likely suffer further offenses for which we take no responsibility and cannot be held liable.

Sincerely,

The Grammar Guarding Grannies Group

I apologize if you found the above note tedious, I thought it was funny.  Now onto my numerically flavored fantasy football observations. On average just over half our league scores higher than their weekly projection.  In the first 5 weeks no less than 4 of us scored higher than projected but this week only of us 2 did.

Up until Christian McCaffrey on Monday night, it was looking like we were going to see the first week in fantasy football in 20 years where no player scored over 30 points (Last time that happened was week 5 2006.)  This was a more disappointing week for many.

42% of the players we started this week scored under 10 points.  That seemed like a high percentage of our players to me so I thought I would go back and look and see how the previous weeks looked too:

Last week 39%

Week 4 38%

Week 3 42%

Week 2 45%

Week 1 48%

So the math would suggest(at least I would suggest that is does 😉)on any given week you should expect to have 4 players score less than 10 points.  I went back and looked at mine and I had 4 most weeks, except I had 2 one week and 6 another, so an average of 4.  I would think then if you have less than 4 you could consider that a good week, more than 4 a bad week, and 4 an average week, if you ignore all other metrics that is 😉.   It's interesting though and I bet some of you will notice this moving forward, I know I will.

Another thing that jumped out at me this week was the change in our record spread.  I like seeing the team with the worst record win in each matchup because that tightens up the spread and I think that makes things more interesting.  Usually things change from week to week but it's highly unlikely for the spread to expand as far as it could or to shrink as far as it could.  The results of this week were quite interesting to me indeed.

Last Week record spread

5-0 (1) Emberdark Aviars

4-1 (1) Chicago Bears

3-2 (2) Unicorn Farts, Chief Ski

2-3 (4) Dragon Army, Same SKOLD Story, Richardson's Elastic Band, Pretty Ponies Club

1-4 (2) Fewsta2005, Jedi Mind Nix

This Week record spread

5-1 (2) Chicago Bears, Emberdark Aviars

3-3 (4) Dragon Army, Same SKOLD Story, Unicorn Farts, Chief Ski

2-4 (4) Fewsta2005, Jedi Mind Nix, Richardson's Elastic Band, Pretty Ponies Club

I share this to remind you no matter where you are at in the standings there is a lot of football left and a lot can change in a week.  So don't give up, don't coast, keep striving for victory and for fun!

Also feel free to share things you are enjoying so far this season, good natured ribbing of a fellow competitor, complaints about things not going yas expected, or calls you made where you really feel like you scored big in the discord chat.  Also encouraged is just sharing life stuff too.  After all the reason we do this is to have fun together right?

Week 5

This week we had 4 close games that weren't decided until the Monday night game.  They all seemed like they would go the other way at one point or another.  We now only have one undefeated team, congratulations Owen on being the only team without a loss so far.  Don't worry Owen, we will all do our best to help you feel included by giving you the opportunity to experience some losses too.

Josh your luck must turn around at some point, having only 1 win despite having the 3rd highest point total, just doesn't seem right.  You easily could be 3-2 right now but the odds haven't been in your favor.

Alex you also have had very poor matchup luck having the most points score against you this season thus far.  Don't give up hope there is lots of football left.

Roland I am still very intimidated by your team despite mine showing up huge this week to make sure you got included in the teams who've experienced loss club. (I think that is the first time my life that I've used the contraction who've.)

Jim so far you have been winning since your predicted you were getting all your loosing out of the way early.  I will be very impressed if your streak continues.

Jeff I think maybe your team would do better if they weren't going through an identity crisis, everyone keeps telling them they are playing under the wrong name.  That has to affect their mental game.

Jake and you only had 2 players that scored points on your bench this week and they were both quarterbacks that scored less than the one you started. Congrats on starting you optimal lineup this week!

Chris 2 players injured this week on your team your TE who you started and only scored 1.7 points still scored higher than the one on your bench.  You wide receiver that was injured, well we just won't talk about the fact that your highest scoring player this week was a wide receiver on your bench.  Isn't fantasy football fun!

Rene I bet you felt like victory lapping that Josh Allen pick with him scoring big for you yet again and winning the week on Monday night!

Week 1 Jim 85 Chris 160.92

Week 2 Jeff 112.96 Roland 154.2

Week 3 Rene 71.46 Roland 200.04

Week 4 Jake 99 Owen 186.32

Week 5 Jeff 99.34 Seth 205.88

I thought it would be interesting to look at the high and low scores of the weeks so far.  There have been very large spreads between the low and high scores each week but despite that on average 3 of our games have been what I would consider close games each each week.  Also interesting after 5 weeks 8 of us have either had a lowest or highest score.  Alex and Josh are the only two not to have a low or high on the week. Maybe they will be the high and low this week, but if so who hits which?  Any given Sunday 😁

Week 4

After week 4 we no longer have any winless teams!  Congrats to Roland and Owen for remaining undefeated, the rest of us want to see you loose it's mostly not personal 😉 as usual we had some players score crazy high and some players score crazy low and we have strong feelings about that, but any given Sunday right?  So let's look at some interesting things from our league.

Week 3

So 3 weeks have past and now we think we know somethings about players.  Maybe we're right and then maybe we're not.  What I do know is that injuries suck and fantasy football is played a week at a time sometimes it feels like everything is against us (Alex, Rene and Jim) and other times it feels like everything goes our way (Roland, Jeff, Josh) or maybe we are just riding the wave and weight feel a little up (Jake and Owen) or a little down (Chris and Seth).  Regardless of where we are and how we are feeling now we have to look ahead to the next week or we won't be prepared for what's coming.

Here's a look at where things stand right now (The last number set is if we did median scoring)

1) Roland 3-0  502.9 6-0

2) Owen 3-0 397.12 5-1

3) Chris 2-1 431.9 4-2

4) Jeff 2-1 360.1 2-4

5) Josh 1-2 427.14 3-3

6) Seth 1-2 408.72 3-3

7) Jake 1-2 398.84 2-4

8) Rene 1-2 339.64 2-4

9) Alex 0-3 395.76 1-5

10) Jim 0-3 330.36 1-5

I share the median scoring because it's something I have thought about trying.  Those who think it adds to the league don't argue for it as something that balances things out although it can have that effect but it makes it so that you have more to be excited about and pay attention to each week.  Because you aren't just hoping to best your opponent that week but you also are wanting to be in the top 5 of the league that week.  So maybe your game isn't even close but you care how so many others are doing because it's a close call between who is going to be in the top 5.  This week not only did we have our highest score and lowest score yet this season but we had 3 blowouts.  Each week though the line for the top 5 has been pretty tight.  Now if only Roland's team would come back down to earth and some of the underperformers across the league would step up then things would be even more exciting.

Public service announcement you can try and make trades with other teams.  Here are some approaches I suggest to getting started.

Make an offer (this doesn't have to be the end of the conversation but it can be the beginning.)

Let someone know you are interested in one of their players and ask if they might be willing to make a trade.

Post in the trade channel players you would like to trade away, maybe someone else would like to have them.

Look for a team that is strong at a position you are weak at, or weak at a position you are strong at and make an offer.

Just start the conversation and who knows maybe something will happen.

I had a positive conversation with one person about the possibility of trading, and made trades with 2 others so far, not sure how any of it will work out but it didn't hurt me personally to go through the process ;)

Remember we all different opinions on players so don't talk yourself out of something before having a conversation.

Last but not least if someone offers you a trade you don't like.  Make that the beginning of the conversation not the end.  Even if you don't end up making a trade it's more fun if we engage with one another.

Good luck this week!

Week 2

 1) Chris 2-0

2) Roland 2-0

3) Owen 2-0

4) Seth 1-1

5) Rene 1-1

6) Jeff 1-1

7) Jim 1-1

8) Alex 0-2

9) Jake 0-2

10) Josh 0-2

After 2 weeks and way too many injuries for my taste here are a couple things I would like to point out.  We have 3 2-0 teams and Chris and Roland to look to be stand out teams so far but there is a lot of football left to play.  We also have 3 0-2 teams but none of them look truly bad, some might say it was matchup luck.  Overall I would say once again we should have a nice competitive season.  So Chris and Roland slack off don't worry about it and the rest of you do your best because every week matters ;)

The Broncos, Rams and Chargers looked bad after week 1.  After week 2 the Rams are still great, the Broncos look better and the Chargers . . .

Chris threw in the towel after Sunday but had a Monday night miracle.

Jake a Rene had a nail bitter in which Jake lost a player in the beginning of the game in Thursday and Rene didn't start one against him.

Alex seemed like he would win with his 2 star tight ends but one went down to injury and took his team with him :'(

Jim's team rose like a Phoenix from the ashes of week one and stole the victory from Josh as he lost Jaxson Dart early Monday night probably for the season.

Roland Dominated once again, sorry Jeff all our heats go out to you.  We know exactly how you feel.

May you all go into week 3 with high hopes and continue to enjoy our battle for victory!

Week 1

Week 1 Scores (Record if we played with median scoring)

1) Chris 160.92 2-0

2) Seth 158.82 2-0

3) Alex 148.94 1-1

4) Roland 148.66 2-0

5) Rene 147.46 1-1

6) Jake 142.06 0-2

7) Owen 128.66 1-1

8) Jeff 114.6 1-1

9) Josh 102.7 0-2

10) Jim 85.0 0-2

Interesting tidbits (to me at least)

Rene had the highest scoring quarterback of the week in Caleb Williams at 37.26 points. . . on his bench 😬 but it wasn't that big of deal because he started Josh Allen who got 35.66 points!

He also only lost by 1.2 points despite having 5 players score less than 9 points including 2 with 0.

Chris who had the highest score of the week could have scored even higher, with a possible 184.82!

Jim who had the lowest score and only has 3 players score over 10 points this week would have won if he had started Brock Purdy and Jalen Coker instead of having them on his bench.

Those started who scored 0 points or less this week

Kyle Pitts

Chargers D/ST

Colston Loveland

Kyler Murray

Texans D/ST

Browns D/ST

This all just goes to show how crazy this game is and how no one really knows what will happen!

Good luck in week 2!  May your players stay healthy and you have fun!
